A visit with zombie-film king Romero

ZADZOOKS: GEORGE ROMERO INTERVIEW
By Joseph Szadkowski-The Washington Times

George Romero has been working with zombies for over 40-years.George Romero has been working with zombies for over 40-years

The great-granddaddy of zombie cinema, George Romero, has had a 40-year-plus love affair with his undead creatures.

The famed director and writer of “Night of the Living Dead” and other zombie movies such as “Dawn of the Dead” and, most recently, “Survival of the Dead” has built a career scaring and grossing out audiences with his post-apocalyptic visions.

The septuagenarian recently talked to Zadzooks about his life, his work and the pop-culture evolution of those lumbering, human-stalking, flesh-eating creatures.

So how sick are you of zombies? I never get sick of them, just like taking a vacation. It’s very liberating working with them in film. I can write political and social satire and not get berated on my dialogue or thematically, so I have been getting away with murder over the years.

Although, I was sort of sick of them when we made “Land of the Dead,” it was a bigger production under Universal, and I was sort of disappointed in the way it was released.

Super Mario Bros.

This video was part of my Bachelor thesis at the University of Applied science and art Hannover. The Super Mario Bros. game, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, is not longer bound to the television size and get interactive with a new environment. The emphasis of my thesis is on the matchmoving work. It is the process of matching CG elements into live-action footage.

Ground Zero diggers uncover hull of 18th century s...

Archaeologists examine timbers found at site of World Trade Centre bombings

world trade centre ground zero new york reconstruction The ship found at the World Trade Centre site was probably among debris used in 18th century landfill. Photograph: Mark Lennihan/APWorkers excavating the World Trade Centre site have unearthed the 10-metre hull of a ship believed to have been buried in the 18th century.

The vessel was probably used along with other debris to fill in land to extend lower Manhattan into the Hudson river, archaeologists have said.

It was hoped the artefact could be retrieved by the end of today, said archaeologist Molly McDonald. A boat specialist was going to the Ground Zero site to examine the find.

McDonald said she wanted to at least salvage some timbers; it was unclear if any large portions could be lifted intact.

“We’re mostly clearing it by hand because it’s fragile,” she said. Construction equipment may be used later in the process.

McDonald and Michael Pappalardo, an archaeologist, were at the site of the 11 September 2001 attacks when the hull was discovered on Tuesday morning.

“We noticed curved timbers that a back hoe brought up,” McDonald said. “We quickly found the rib of a vessel and continued to clear it away and expose the hull.

“We’re going to send timber samples to a laboratory to do dendrochronology to help us get a sense of when the boat was constructed.” Dendrochronology is the science that uses tree rings to determine dates and chronological order.

A 45kg (100lb) anchor was found a few yards from the hull on Wednesday but the experts are not sure if it belongs to the ship. The anchor was about a metre across, McDonald said.

The archaeologists are racing to record and analyse the vessel before exposure to air makes the delicate wood deteriorate.

“I kept thinking of how closely it came to being destroyed,” Pappalardo said.

At first when reading she being Brand, it’s easy enough to assume that the speaker is referring to a car. Well, of course, on the surface it seems very easy to point out that the speaker is, in fact, talking about using an  automobile that was “brand new.” Key terms such as “radiator,” “clutch,” and “gears” ring true for the description of a manual car.

Yet, couldn’t one assume that the speaker is talking about sex? More specifically, couldn’t it be the story of taking the virginity of a girl or young woman?

Let us take a closer look, step by step, for those of you who doubt me.

she being Brand (1926) by E. E. Cummings

We can start here with the title. “She” can refer to a car, of course. But why not also to just a girl, period? And “Brand.” Yes, the speaker could be referring to a high end roadster. Yet, notice how the B in “Brand” is capitalized, unlike “she” and “being.” “Brand” could be a nickname for a girl named “Brandy.”

    she being Brand

    -new;and you
    know consequently a
    little stiff i was
    careful of her and(having

→ Brand new vehicles can be hard to work with at first. But looking at the poem in the sense that “she” is a virginal girl, she could be tense in a situation like making the motions leading to sex, or even foreplay. Granted, the speaker could also be talking about himself being “stiff.” Ooo, such a dirty mind.

Alan Wake Soundtrack Album Review By Rick Damigell...

Much like Alan Wake is very different from most everything else currently spinning in game consoles, the same holds true for Petri Alanko’s score for the game. The soundtrack album for the critically acclaimed Xbox 360 title is now available and The Feed invites you to join us for a listen.

First time game soundtrack composer Petri Alanko proves he is more than capable of propelling and supporting the on-screen action of Alan Wake through his compositions. There must be something in the air in his native Finland which inspires composers to create fresh listening experiences out of well-worn music genres. Fans of the symphonic metal scene of Finland know what I’m talking about.

Hello everyone! This will be my first review for Badass87. I’m very excited to write for all of you. I hope to get you excited about some series that I found to be truly awesome. I’ll sometimes write about current shows, sometimes old ones. I promise to keep it interesting. My writing tone changes quite a bit, sometimes it’s more professional, other times inappropriate, in your face, and biased. I intend to find some sort of happy medium, but until then, the tone of my reviews may bounce around a bit. That being said, let me tell you a bit more about my taste in anime.
